Working on.....

I'm trying to build a community site into the main web page. Running into a few bumps at the moment but, I will figure something out.

Check out http://my.mounet.com for something else I am working on. Remember it's still in beta so your settings might not be saves when we go live with it.

We are as always taking ideas on services that you might want. If you have any please let us know

We have a new logo!

Spamcop update

HA! the people at spamcop really don't pay attention to email complaints. Could be the reason why they wont show you the msg in question when you get listed. I have set up a false reply to from server ip statement. If you have friends enabled it will send a bounce back wanting a reply. Spamcop was blacklisting our server from these. Now it reports a different ip address! so now the fake one gets blacklisted. Love for surgemail grows.

Upgrades almost complete!!

We are now running off our new Juniper M10i's! Full bgp routes and one oc3 and one 100m ethernet connection to the internet. Some of our customers are moved also. In two weeks everything will be moved over.

samsigafoos: Disconnecting in 2 1/2 hours may be ok for those with high speed, but with dial-up, that's not enough time to download IE 7 or a comparable size software. I don't usually stay on for that long, but once in a while ya have to. (02/10/08)

Perfekt: With the grouth of Mounet and the web as a whole, downloads getting SO MUCH BIGGER don't you think it's time to stop the disconnecting every 2½ hours?Over the years i've played online games "redialing before thinking of starting any game" talking to people and no one else anywhere in the world has an isp that dc's them every 2½ hours. It used to be hard to get dialed in a few years ago but things have changed, it's time to change with them. TY (01/04/07)

MountaiNet Admin: All you have to do is ask. We will give you all the time you need (02/11/08)

Anonymous Coward: After 2.5 hours it's time to get up and take a break anyways :) (07/27/07)

tards of SPAMCOP

Spamcop isn't that user friendly. We use to use them to deny email, after being listed and relisted over and over we have changes our ways, We now use them to stamp and a few other rbls. So now a email that is on a rbl will get stamped with a spam score and not blocked right off. Im guessing our email server is sending bounces from friends or just invalid accounts to a spamcop spamtrap. So I think I have a fix!!! Spamcop will not allow you to see the email that caused you to get blacklisted so they pretty much suck. That makes for alot of false positives.

Ok its all ready for beta testing. I don't recommend dialup users using this but, it can be done. So send a email to admin, with username and password. The first 10 people to email me will get to test it. (this includes or hicap customers)

Also i.m. testing. Our new jabber server is at im.mounet.com login using im.mounet.com as the server or your emailaddress@im.mounet.com and your email password. You will need to use one of these clients.

Remember this is beta testing so as time allows will I support these for now.

Its been some time. So heres whats going on. Working on testing ifolders. This will let you install clients on home, work, or any pc you want to share files between. Auto sync, so all you do is drag and drop, then the other computers sync to the server to get those files.

I have changed out some of the internals to express web surfing. I like it much more that the old. Everything seems to be more responsive and, it does dns prefetching!

Bot makers nabbed

"Dutch police has nabbed 3 men (aged 19,22, & 27) who alledgedly used the toxbot trojan to create a botnet of over 100000 machines. The trio conducted a DDOS attack against an unnamed US company in an extortion attempt, as well as using phishing tactics to hijack PayPal and eBay accounts. From the article: 'Police seized computers, cash, a sports car, and bank accounts at the three men's residences, and additional arrests are expected. The three were to be taken before a magistrate in Breda, a city approximately 25 miles south of Rotterdam, on Friday. The botnet was dismantled, prosecutors said, with help from the Dutch National High Tech Crime Center; GOVCERT.NL, the Netherlands' Computer Emergency Response Team; and several Internet service providers, including the Amsterdam-based XS4ALL.'"

SPammer Busted

25 year old Christopher William Smith, considered one of the worlds biggest spammers by the Spamhaus Project, is now sitting in a jail without bond. Smith allegedly had a doctor issue 72,000 prescriptions in the space of one year in conjunction with orders obtained through spamming. The doctor, Philip Mach, had a license to practice medicine in New Jersey but he provided prescriptions to people throughout the United States without ever evaluating them, both of which are big no-no's. Federal authorities have already seized over $3 million in cash, luxury cars, and houses."

We know they are criminals already but stuff like this just shows everyone else

Danny Filyaw: Christopher William Smith deserves what he gets for spamming people the way he did. I am glad he is behind bars where he belongs. (03/22/06)
